The Warm Oil Treatment: Wash Day's Best-Kept Secret
Of the three ways to use the Hair Elixir, the warm oil treatment is the one people skip most and regret skipping most. Scalp-first care fits into any day. Shine and seal takes seconds after styling. But the warm oil treatment asks for something a little rarer these days: 30 minutes of doing nothing else.
Here's why it's worth carving out. (If you're new to the three-part ritual, start here.)

What it actually is
Before you shampoo, apply the Elixir to your scalp the way you'd apply a traditional hair oil for hair oiling on wash day, Then leave it. Thirty minutes, no rinsing, no rushing. When the time is up, wash it out with your usual shampoo, same as any other wash day.
That's it. No extra products, no special tools. Just time.
Why the order matters
Applying oil before you shampoo, rather than after, is the whole point. Your hair and scalp are dry, and the oil has time to sit and work into the hair before water and shampoo enter the picture. Apply the same oil after washing, and you're layering it onto hair that's already been cleansed and styled—a different use (that's what shine and seal is for), not a replacement for this one.
For extra hydration
If your hair runs dry or it's been a while since your last deep conditioner, add a few drops of the Elixir into your favorite hair mask or deep conditioner instead of applying it directly. Cover your hair with a shower cap, or sit under a dryer or steamer, for the same 30 minutes, then rinse and wash as usual. This version leans more hydrating, since the mask is doing its own work alongside the oil.
What's in the oil during this step
The base of the Elixir is moringa oil, blended with grapeseed oil and squalane to keep it light rather than heavy — which matters here, since you're leaving it on for half an hour, not rinsing it off in five minutes. The floral scent (ylang ylang, geranium, lavender) is part of what makes this step feel like something instead of a chore: put on a robe, make tea, sit with it. That's not incidental. A ritual that feels good is a ritual you'll actually repeat.
How often
Once or twice a week, on your regular wash day, is a reasonable place to start. If your hair runs very dry, you can do it every wash day. If it runs oilier, every other wash day is probably plenty. There's no single right frequency — this is the one step in the ritual where paying attention to your own hair matters more than following a rule.
What to expect
Used consistently, the Elixir is made to nourish the scalp, help reduce breakage, and soften strands — and this is the step that gives it the most time to do that work before rinsing. We won't tell you a date you'll notice something, because it depends on your hair, your routine, and your consistency. Individual results vary. What we can tell you: thirty minutes, once a week, is a small ask for a habit that compounds.
Start here if you've never done it
If you've read about the three-step ritual and only ever tried scalp-first care or shine and seal, this is the one to add next. It's the step that asks the most of your time and gives the most in return — not because of any single ingredient, but because it's the only step built around patience.
